Job Summary:

(40 hours weekly) - Manager required for Children's Residential Unit for Learning and Physical Disabilities

You should be a forward thinking manager qualified to NVQ4 in Social Care and hold a Managers Award, or be willing to work towards this award. You will be responsible for managing a staff team and providing a safe and caring environment for the young people. Experience of working with young people with severe challenging behaviour and learning and physical disabilities is required.

 

Main Purpose:

To be responsible for a residential service providing quality care for looked after children including those with a disability which meets the National Minimum Standards for Children's Residential Homes. To ensure that all aspects of physical and emotional care of the children are met so as to promote their welfare, whilst working in partnership with their families and other professionals. To provide experience and expertise in working with children and families and to effectively manage and develop a staff team.  

 

Main Activities:

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS

1.To manage and engage in work with children and young people, individually and in groups to achieve optimal outcomes matched to the 5 outcomes and KPI

2.To manage the effective delivery of the residential services.

3.To effectively and efficiently manage the use of financial resources within the unit.

4.To effectively manage the use of physical and human resources within the unit.

5.To develop productive working relationships with colleagues, other agencies and members of the public.

6.To contribute to project planning and preparation.

7. To have a responsibility in marketing and development of the Home and additional services

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Develop and sustain effective working relationships between workers and the local community, colleagues and other agencies so as to promote collaborative working and partnerships including families and education

2.Contribute to the development of teams and individuals to enhance their performance by ensuring the provision of supervision, support, NVQ assessment, training and appraisal; and to respond to poor performance.

3.Manage the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources including the selection, recruitment and retention of staff for which the post holder is responsible.

4.Effectively manage information that promotes communication between people, the organisation and others, and which assists with making informed decisions.

5.Ensure compliance with the legal requirements relating to services, standing orders and financial regulations for which the post holder is responsible.

6.Contribute to the strategic and business planning of the service, the development of policies, procedures and implementation of quality assurance systems.

7.Establish, sustain and disengage from relationships with service users and their families.

8.Contribute to the effective physical, social and emotional environment for group care which provides a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment in which children and their families can be offered the support, care and guidance they need.

9.Contribute to the promotion of the individuals health and social well being; ensure that the individual is able to maintain a positive sense of self and identity, and that they are supported in maximising their educational opportunities and achievements.

10.Contribute to the protection of children from abuse; evaluate the risk of abuse, failure to protect and harm to self and other people and to ensure that all matters regarding the care and management of young people are reported in line with departmental policy and procedure.

11.Promote people's equality, diversity, rights and responsibilities, and develop, maintain and evaluate systems and structures which promote them.

12.Co-ordinate the assessment of the individuals needs and circumstances and monitor and review service responses that meet these.

13.Contribute to the implementation and evaluation of specific programmes, which provides a framework for the effective management of individuals and group behaviour.

14.Develop ones own knowledge, practice, resources and style of leadership which ensures open and participatory management and practice.

15.To co-ordinate and participate in an out of hours on-call service, to be aware of, monitor and lead in any child protection or complaints issue.

16. To assist in the development of a business plan for the service including marketing activity and material, to play a role in maintianing occupancy and the development of serivices for residential childrens services

17. To maintian 100% occupancy through effective branding and marketing and demosntration of capability and outcomes through information sharing with placing authorities and developing relationships with new stakeholders.

18.Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as may from time to time be required by the Director of Social Services.

All employees have a duty to carry out their work with due regard for the health and safety of themselves, other employees and the public, to observe health and safety requirements relevant to their activities and co-operate with the council so as to enable them to carry out their own responsibilities effectively. They must report to their supervisor every accident no matter how minor and also any incident, which could result in injury or damage to plant and equipment and co-operate in the investigation of accidents with the object of preventing a reoccurrence.
